One of the divers on the dive[, Mike Phelan,] is a REEF fish identification instructor. He spotted 61 species on the first dive and 59 on the second. People on the boat saw a manta ray even! Highlights of what I saw were lots of big lobster, a nurse shark, turtle, and lionfish."

Turtle Walk, Loggerhead Marinelife Center
Eighteen club members shared an experience that most on earth will never see. We watched a Loggerhead turtle lay approximately 120 eggs in her nest on Juno Beach. With a near full-moon and lightning strikes in the background, it was a truly awesome event.
'Fun' Sea Turtle Facts
- A nesting sea turtle will lay 120-125 eggs every 10-12 days during the months of May thru August.
- The eggs hatch in approximately 60 days and the hatchlings begin their lives by (quickly) entering the ocean and
swimming out to the kelp line. -

Ten club members met at Jupiter Lanes, after a dinner at Nick's Tomato Pie. There was a lot of fun had by all and a few 'secrets' that have yet to be shared.
- JDC Curacao Trip, May 17-24, 2009 Seven club members joined the Jupiter Dive Center's trip to the amazing island of Curacao in the Netherland Antilles. We returned with 10 members, many wonderful memories and stories, as well as six new friends from northern climes. Kudos to Anne and Chris for their OW certs obtained during the trip. Veronica earned the nickname 'Bubbles' for her (thankfully) short stint in 'The Chamber'. There were some 'allergies' shared, as well as less than stellar cuisine. While, I believe that, we'd all go back to the island, we'll be looking for somewhere a little less crowded, next time.

The club gained two new members. If you weren't there, you really missed a lot of fun! The water is getting warmer every day. -

The second dive, a planned drift dive on a little-known reef, Paradise, was much more enjoyable for everyone. -

Movie Night - Sharkwater
An absolutely heartbreaking documentary about the killing of sharks for their fins and one man's journey to try to stip it. More chilling than any of the rhetoric surrounding "global warming propaganda", this film shows us that there really is a way for man to kill the planet. A must see. -

September Club Field Trip, September 22, 2007
If you missed this one, you missed an opportunity of a lifetime! Fourteen members carpooled or caravaned to Mote Marine Lab and Aquarium, in Sarasota. Of course we toured the Marine Mammal Research and Rehabilitation Center and the Mote Aquarium, which are open to the general public and quite interesting. In addition, though, we were taken behind the scenes by FOJDD Melissa Sparks to meet the current patients, Betty and Bam Bam. They are two surviving Risso Dolphinsi of four that were found stranded near Bonita Beach on May 4, 2007. Risso Dolphins are never seen in the wild by divers, due to their preference for offshore habitats. Our group was mesmerized while watching the behavior of the mother and calf. The center plans to release these now healthy patients during the coming week. -

Although July 21, 2007 was cloudy and rainy, club members enjoyed two of the most beautiful reefs off of Jupiter on the Republic IV. At Area 51, we swam with Goliath Groupers, observed huge sea turtles, a Spotted Eagle Ray and big green Morays, as well as an abundance of fish life that's hard to beat anywhere. At the end of the dive, we encountered so many reef sharks that everyone had a different opinion on the count. The second dive was at the ever popular Tunnels site, where we were treated to the usual array of sea life. A group dinner at the Jupiter Ale House followed. -
